Mobtown Studios Microshow: Lands & Peoples

Mobtown Studios here in Baltimore has hosted yet another magical evening in the form of one of their "micro-shows".  Often hosting talents that are anything but small, owner/operators Mat Leffler-Schulman and Emily Leffler-Schulman invite musicians into their home and recording studio to perform for intimate crowds in an acoustic setting.  The latest group to do so is Lands & Peoples, and the recordings from that evening were just posted.  I can't say enough great things about any of the people involved, and the music is a gorgeous array of pop, alternative folk and experimental stylings.  Listen and download here.

WEEKENDS - Roommate / Raingirls

This video for Baltimore's psych-garage indie duo Weekends isn't just for one amazing song, but two!  Roommate and Raingirls are two tracks off of Friends Records' release Strange Cultures that came out early this year.  The tracks are among the band's best, with lofty goals of reverb drenched fevers.  It stars the CopyCat Theater troupe, as well as Brendan Sullivan and Adam Lempel of Weekends.

The videos were an often difficult project, which actually began over a year ago with a shoot in the Copycat building.  With the first half being a live recording on set, and the second half comprised largely of stop motion animation, it is a confluence of disciplines.  Annie Gugliotta made the amazing puppets, and Bennii D. worked the computer animation / compositing / effects wizardry.  I owe a huge thanks to Bennii and Annie for all their work during the animation process.  Also many thanks to Lindsey Mercer and Kevin Blackistone for helping out with the shoot.

Ed Schrader Show 09/29/11

Every now and again Ed Schrader leads us in a serious investigation into the outer boundaries of taste with a little thing called the Ed Schrader Show.  This talk show is one of my favorite projects, and this episode is an absolute power house with Matt Porterfield, Ellie Beziat and Future Islands.  It just happened at the 5th Dimension a couple of weeks ago, and you can check out this episode and many previous ones on the show's YouTube page.

Zomes 07/29/11

Asa Osbourne (formerly of Lungfish) weaves a tapestry of hypnotic melodies and rhythms as ZOMES.  Armed with a Casio and a mystic imperative Zomes put a small crowd of acolytes in the basement of Baltimore's Museum of Natural History in a trance.  This has been sitting around since July 29th of this year, but it is a great trip.  Enjoy.
